Facebook - do you love it or hate it?!!!

I feel both ways!!! I love keeping in touch with friends far away and seeing pics of what they've been up to! I love being able to be nosy and take a peek into other people's lives! It's a bit like looking into other people's houses, but legally!!! I really love t... Continue reading

Our full story is that we have a Sunshine Zachary who despite a difficult pregnancy with pre-eclampsia and a scary induced birth leading to an EMCS with the cord wrapped twice around his neck is now a healthy 4 year old.

When he was 2 we fell pregnant with his brother Phoenix... it was the perfect pregnancy until at 21 weeks my waters broke. I was on bed rest for a month during which time Phoenix became very ill. We were pressured by many consultants to terminate but we couldn't do it. I went into spontaneous lab... Continue reading

We are now blessed with our rainbow baby Orla Laurinda Margaret but it's been a hell of a roller coster to get to this point here is our story . It's a long one. .

After our sunshine Ella 10.09.06 via emergency section .I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes so we had to wait to try for a brother or sister.  In 2010 we was pregnant . Our little boy Noah William died at just 6 days old in January 2015. I developed ICP at 37 weeks so was induced at 37+5. When he was born we had to watch the doctors spend 31 minutes trying to resuscitate him

when his heart started beating again he was rushed to the neonatal unit on a ventilator . Later on in the week the doctors explained that he had severe brain damage due to the lack of oxygen at birth and basically that he would never breathe on his own. We made the most heartbreaking decision to do what was best for Noah and to... Continue reading

It should be your birthday,Princess

But nanny thinks it's hers

She knows it's the wrong date

But she just received a gift.

She's pretty and soft

And has the face of an angel

The eyes of a wise little lady.

Nanny knows that it's her greatest job,

To look after you,little one

And to watch over your beautiful mummy.

Your mummy is sad

Because today should be your birthday

Each tear that is shed,is a present for you

So you know how much she loves you.

Goodnight sweetheart,God bless.

We lost our first baby Erin at 38.5weeks pregnant in March 2016. No one prepares you for that. Still to this day, the most frequent comment I say when people ask/are told is “we just didn’t have a clue that could happen”. We all are aware of passing the “safe” time after 12 weeks and we are beginning to hear of miscarriages up until 20 weeks. However, still births? Only if the baby or mum was poorly did I... Today the horrendous events in London happened. I am watching the news in disbelief. At times like this I really appreciate things like Facebook, you do feel quite isolated, confused, scared and in fear of the world when something awful happens, but social media can really help as people explore their responses and make their observations. I always wonder how on earth I am going to explain things to my daughter. She is only 6, but intelligent, sensitive and incredibly inquisitive. I feel a responsibility to te... Continue reading

1 week left at work, hurray!!!! And what do I have to do? Be observed!!! Eeeeek! I am a teacher, so we are used to going through this, but with my maternity leave so close I was really not expecting it! I admit to googling it (love netmums!) and checking if this was legal, I also admit to considering faking being in labour/hitting the fire alarm/praying for snow, but at the end of the day I just decided to do it! It wasn't my best ever lesson, but I planned it as much as I could, researched my topic, listened... Continue reading

Hello everyone! I have never written a blog before, but am really excited by the idea, thinking I may become a glamorous fashionable writer in the style of Carrie from SATC! Just with  a slightly larger physique, Primark clothes and an entourage of snotty kids and moaning hubby rather than 3 other equally glamorous friends!!!

So, this is my nursery so far!!!  Everything we need is here (I think!) just not in any order or fully assembled!!! It has been a family effort with my mum, brother, uncle and in-laws all pitching in. The sum total of hubby's efforts has been putting up the lampshade however!  Not sure if he is still coming to terms with another baby, is worried about the birth and what could be, or if he's just plain lazy!!!! But either way he... Continue reading

It was 2006 and I was living in Liverpool, I was a day late for my period so I tried doing a pregnancy test but there was no evidence of being pregnant. The next day in the evening time I started cramping up and then the blood started and I realised this wasn't like any period that I had experienced before, first I noticed there were clots in the blood, then I noticed it was darker than normal, the pain was also much more intense. The next morning I noticed there was grey matter in the blood and I couldn't work out what was wrong, so I... October 2nd 2014.

My due date.

I slept in that morning. Peter had gone to work and I’d slept till around 10am. It was the first time in ages since I had last slept in.

Later I realised it was because his movements had not woken me as usual.

My mum had been working and was coming over to go food shopping. We’d got to 40 weeks! My due date! I was so incredibly happy and excited. She got there and I bounced on my ball and was telling her I thought he had dropped. Eeek!! Not long! Mum casually said “you’re sti... Continue reading

A Midwife's View

As a midwife I've been privileged to support, many couples to become families, and many families to grow in size.  It's a joy I experience time and time over and a feeling  I've only ever topped by birthing my own 4 precious babies.  As you can imagine emotions run high, women realise they have a strength they never knew existed and hearing the phrase 'one more push, and you will meet you baby' always Spurs women on and finds them digging deeper, and finding the energy to birth their long awaited baby. Regardless of what came... Continue reading

It never ceases to amaze me that palaeontologists are constantly discovering with new dinosaurs. After all this time, millions and millions of years, 'ops here's one we missed', last month another one reared its head. In fact it wasn't a professional palaeontologist this time, it was one of those anorak wearing, spectacled, 'just rummaging around in mud for fun types', appropriately called Kevin.

The evolutionary process is no slouch, and the end product works perfectly, in the main our bodies do the job they have evolved to do ove... Continue reading

My husband Mark and I met when we were teenagers - we are high school sweethearts - and after enduring a long distance relationship the through university and teacher training, were married on a beautiful island in Fiji in 2008. Several house and career moves later, I gave Mark the best present ever by telling him I was pregnant with our first baby on his 31st birthday. We were thrilled as we had been lucky first time of trying!

My pregnancy went very smoothly and was utterl... Continue reading

A Story of Hope

In 2011 at the age of 37 I gave birth to a perfect, beautiful little girl. She was and still is the light of our lives.  Being a mum was the most overwhelming amazing experience and as a result we decided in early 2013 that we wanted to try for another baby. In June of that year I had the feeling I was pregnant but my pregnancy test was negative.  My period started that night. Three weeks later I was still bleeding so I phoned the doctor who told me to take a test, it was positive.  I was sent for... Continue reading
